I can't believe I forgot to get a picture, but somehow I did. Last night Abby and Ryan had their first evening with an actual babysitter (as opposed to friends that we've known for a long time). Marissa is their gymnastics coach, a sweet girl who is a senior in high school. Mommy and Daddy went out to dinner for their anniversary, and the kids played with Marissa for a couple of hours. Apparently they had lots of fun playing hide and seek, time machine, reading books, etc. Abby couldn't hug her enough as she went to leave!

We've been using the 14 year old girl next door quite a bit the past couple of weeks. It's so nice having someone right next door and not have to take her home, etc. Let alone have the peace of mind that her mother is right next door!! LOL.

Yeah, just dinner. Since it was the first time, we didn't want to be gone too long...plus, we're not used to paying for a sitter. It's expensive!
Just out of curiousity, did she have a rate that she charged or did she just take what you gave her???
Kayla, next door, just takes what I give her. I try to be fair, but at the same time, I don't want to go bankrupt. LOL.
She charges $5 an hour, and I paid her for three hours though she really only watched them for 2 1/2. Sitters we've talked to in the past told me they charge upwards of $8 an hour for two kids, so we're getting a bargain!
How much do you usually give Kayla per hour? How nice to have someone so close by with her mom right there too! I used to do that for our neighbor too. I got a whopping $1 per hour, but that was almost 30 years ago.
I don't have a set rate I give her. LOL.
One night she came over at 7:30pm so we could go to a friends dessert birthday fellowship. Hannah was spending the night with my parents, so all she had was Rachel. Whom we put to bed before we left. She basically got paid to watch TV and have a listening ear. We were gone 3 hours and I gave her $12.
Last weekend, there was a girl from our church playing at Borders, in their little cafe. I wanted to go, but didn't want to be chasing Rachel all over the store and telling Hannah "NO" everytime she asked if she could get something, so Kayla came over for about 2 1/2 hours and I had her put Rachel to bed, and told Hannah she could stay up. I gave her $12 that night.
I used her one night last week so we could go to a home Bible Study. Had her put both girls to bed...only gone 2 hours, gave her $10.
Basically, she's at that age now where she's realizing how much more she can get if she has her own money. So she's grateful for anything.
