Thursday was probably our last trip to the zoo for a while. We bought an annual pass last year for Abby's birthday and got a bonus of a couple of extra months, but it expires at the end of June. We don't live as close as we used to either, so we probably won't buy another annual pass at least for a while, but it was fun while it lasted!
We had to have some servicing done on the van, so we dropped it off and took the bus and Max to the zoo to spend a few hours there. It was a beautiful day, and we got to see a lot in the short time we were there. We splurged and bought the nectar for the Lorakeets. Abby even held the cup this time, which is a little bit scary even for me. Birds fly out of nowhere to land on you and eat from the cup! She's a brave girlie though and had fun feeding them.
The leopard was actually awake and stared right at us! Poor fellow, his mate had to be put to sleep earlier this year due to cancer. He looks a little forlorn these days. We also got a great look at the alligator. He's usually off in a corner somewhere in the tank and impossible to see, but today he was right down front holding his breath for the longest time until he finally came to the surface for some air. Even with the thick glass, neither Abby nor Ryan were entirely convinced it was safe to get too close.
Lastly, we petted the goats for the last time. Even Ryan was enthusiastic about it, which is odd for him. Abby curry-combed this little goat over and over till I finally convinced her it was time to go.
