First Visit to the Dentist

I have been concerned about Abby's teeth for a few months, and so now that we have dental insurance, I made an appointment for her. I take extra care with brushing her teeth just because I could tell she may not have the strongest teeth (that's the ex-dental assistant in me still).

She is usually very compliant and cooperative at the doctor's, so I wasn't too worried about how well she'd do at the dentist. Sure enough, she did beautifully! We had her go before Ryan, and I think she made it look so easy that it really helped ease Ryan's fears.

Unfortunately, as I suspected, Abby has some cavities...five to be exact, ugh. So back we go next week to get them filled. (Yep, I cried when I told my hubby.) I feel like I've let her down. Fortunately, they are very small, didn't even show up on x-rays, and it shouldn't be too much of an ordeal to get them filled.

No more once- or twice-a-day brushing for Abigail. We will now be brushing after every meal, adding flossing every day, and administering fluoride before bed (even though our water is fluoridated), and the dentist said we may want to do some sealants on the rest of her teeth that are currently healthy since she appears to be prone to cavities. Hopefully, with diligence, we can avoid future cavities.

Oh my, poor Abby. :) Will they give her some kind of gas mask to relaxe her a bit when they do the cavities??

I'm suprised she let them do XRays. When I took Hannah to the dentist in April, she gagged when they put the film card in her mouth therefore they couldn't get XRays.

She does so well we're going to try it without, but if it looks like she needs it, then we'll do nitrous oxide.

I wasn't surprised she let them put the films in, but I was very surprised she held still so they could take the picture!
